A new executive director of the Ashland Schools Foundation has been appointed to replace his predecessor, who is stepping down after nearly 20 years.
Erica Thompson, deputy director of the board of directors who was also executive director of the Ashland Independent Film Festival, will replace Susan Bacon on January 1.
âAfter extensive research, presenting candidates from across the West Coast, Erica quickly rose to the top of our list with her enthusiasm, her nonprofit operational knowledge and her existing work at Ashland,â said John Williams , treasurer of ASF and chairman of the search committee, said in a statement
In accepting his appointment to the most senior position, Thompson noted his move from the Midwest to Ashland in 2017.
âI am honored to have the opportunity to serve Ashland Public Schools through the foundation by fulfilling the fundraising mission to support quality education in our public schools,â she said.
The press release noted that the annual Monster Dash Race for Education, which will be held on October 30, is approaching. The event includes 1 mile, 5K and 10K races and will be offered in person and remotely.
âPresenting sponsor Lithia4Kids joins nearly 100 local businesses offering gift certificates, products and sponsorship dollars for a successful fundraising event in 2021,â the press release reads. âThe funds raised will be used as part of the foundation’s Classroom Impact Grants program, to provide teachers with grants for hands-on projects, materials and supplies throughout the school year. “
