South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR) is looking for board members who can make responsible and prudent decisions to provide leadership for the organization. Recently, a few members have resigned from the board for various reasons.
King described some of the work provided by the SCCR to people going through the cancer journey.
“We’re giving people hope, and I think that’s probably the greatest thing we can do through the transportation program, which is so generously funded by all of our donors across the region, from Cartwright to Emerson. Letellier to the US border to Carman, we cover a wide area, what we are looking for are board members from the various communities in the area we cover.
She explained the commitment required to be a good board member.
“Being a board member is very rewarding. It’s not a huge commitment. We meet 9 times a year. We don’t meet in the summer and we don’t meet in December. There are committees that we ask you to be on. , but there’s not a full commitment to that. We have a finance committee, we have a fundraising committee, which is a fun committee, they can do all kinds of fun things. We have a programs, policies and procedures committee and we deal with the policies of the organization, the different programs that we have.”
King shared why she likes to serve this way.
“The highlight for me is seeing families and cancer patients go through their cancer journey and that we were able to help them. The other is the amazing support we get from all the communities in the area that we serve.” adding his own reflection on his service, “Being on the board has been an honor and a privilege. I’ve enjoyed it so much. I’ve met so many wonderful people, learned so much, and I can’t say enough. overemphasizing that it’s rewarding it is. It’s work, but it’s good work.
King encouraged those interested to attend a meeting of the SCCR board of directors to listen to the board, meet the board and ask questions.
